Dash and Hound Designs - Branding + Website

Dash & Hound Designs

Summary
Dash and Hound Designs was born out of my love of animals and painting. It's now an e-commerce business where my dog themed prints and patterns are sold on accessories including tote bags, art prints, ornaments and greeting cards. I designed all aspects of this brand including the branding, business card, social media posts, website, mockups and photography, as well as the prints on the products for sale.

After doing market research I knew the branding and products should resonate with the feminine, Millennial dog and cat owner. I also kept in mind the whimsical and light hearted nature of my artwork when creating the logo and branding elements.

I chose to use black for the logos to keep them timeless and universal. The hand lettering and gestural figures compliment the hand painted products. Black and white are prominent throughout the brand but friendly and playful colors are important too and all colors were designed to mix and match harmoniously.

Branding and Style Guide

Reflections

  • It was a challenge to come up with a branding color palette that complemented the retail products but wasn’t exactly the same as the primary colors used on the products.

  • It was important for the logo and icons to have a hand drawn look but also be scalable and graphic. I resolved this by drawing the logo and icons by hand with a black pen and then making them vector shapes in Illustrator.

  • After finishing the Dash & Hound branding and adding it to the Etsy shop traffic increased.
